Upper Blepharoplasty
Excess upper-eyelid skin and fat
What is it?
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that rejuvenates the eyelids by removing excess skin and fat from the upper eyelid, which can give a tired appearance and may even limit the field of vision in some cases.

Lower Blepharoplasty
Excess skin, fat pads and loss of lower-eyelid tone
What is it?
Blepharoplasty rejuvenates the eyelids by removing excess lower-eyelid skin and fat that can give a tired appearance. It can also correct senile ectropion and re-suspend the eyelid to restore a more youthful appearance and reduce excessive exposure of the conjunctiva, which may cause red eye.
Put simply, canthopexy and canthoplasty correspond, respectively, to suspension of the lower eyelid by plication — suturing the ligament onto itself — or anchoring the ligament in a new position, usually higher and with greater tone. It is normally performed together with upper blepharoplasty.

Associated procedures
B. Toxin
Expression lines of the forehead, eyebrows and lateral eye area
What is it?
B. Toxin temporarily paralyses the muscles responsible for facial expression lines and wrinkles, allowing the skin to recover from years of contractions and forehead furrowing.

Associated procedures
Eyelid Ptosis Correction
Drooping of the upper eyelid
What is it?
Ptosis correction surgery repositions the muscle responsible for elevating the eyelid or suspends the upper eyelid in congenital cases where the muscle does not function. In many cases, upper blepharoplasty is associated with the procedure to rejuvenate the eyelid.

Frequently asked questions
Brief answers to common questions about upper and lower blepharoplasty, B. Toxin and eyelid ptosis correction.
What does upper blepharoplasty correct?
It corrects excess skin of the upper eyelids and other changes associated with ageing. In some cases, excess skin may limit the field of vision.
How is upper blepharoplasty performed?
The procedure removes excess skin and fat from the upper eyelid to rejuvenate the area and reduce a tired appearance.
How long does upper blepharoplasty take and which anaesthesia is used?
The stated duration is approximately 1 hour. It is performed under local anaesthesia, with or without sedation.
What are the scars and recovery like after upper blepharoplasty?
The scars lie along the eyelid skin folds and are almost unnoticeable after 1 to 3 months in most cases. Reading can be resumed after 2–3 days and daily activities at around 5 to 7 days, although minor bruising may persist for up to 2 weeks.
What does lower blepharoplasty correct?
It corrects excess skin, fat pads and possible loss of lower-eyelid tone.
How does lower blepharoplasty work?
It removes excess lower-eyelid skin and fat. It may also correct senile ectropion and re-suspend the eyelid to reduce excessive exposure of the conjunctiva.
What is the difference between canthopexy and canthoplasty?
Canthopexy suspends the lower eyelid by plication of the ligament. Canthoplasty anchors the ligament in a new position, usually higher and with greater tone.
How long does lower blepharoplasty take and which anaesthesia is used?
The stated duration is approximately 1h30. It may be performed under local anaesthesia, with or without sedation, or under general anaesthesia, depending on the complexity of the case.
What are the hospital stay and recovery like after lower blepharoplasty?
Hospitalisation is generally not required, although an accompanying person is needed. More complex cases may require one night in hospital. Reading can be resumed after 2–3 days, and bruising may persist for up to 2–3 weeks.
What are the main risks of eyelid surgery?
Temporary discomfort, tightness, swelling, bruising, tearing and light sensitivity may occur. Rarer complications include temporary blurred or double vision, infection, bleeding, asymmetry in healing, difficulty closing the eyes and the possible need for additional surgery. Permanent loss of vision is extremely rare.
What is eyelid ptosis correction for?
It is used to correct drooping of the upper eyelid.
How is eyelid ptosis correction performed?
The procedure repositions the muscle responsible for elevating the eyelid or suspends the upper eyelid in congenital cases where the muscle does not function. It may be combined with upper blepharoplasty.
What are recovery and longevity like after ptosis correction?
Reading can be resumed after 2–3 days and daily activities at around 5 to 7 days, although minor bruising may persist for up to 2 weeks. The improvement usually lasts many years, although it may not be lifelong in some cases.
Which areas can be treated with B. Toxin and how does it work?
It can reduce expression lines in the forehead, eyebrows and lateral eye area, raise the eyebrows and correct facial asymmetries. It works by temporarily paralysing the muscles responsible for expression lines.
When does the effect of B. Toxin appear, how long does it last and what precautions are advised?
The effect appears after 3 to 4 days and lasts 4 to 6 months. Exercise, intense heat and strong sun exposure should be avoided during the first 24–48 hours. Described risks include asymmetry, reduced facial expression with higher doses and eyelid drooping.
