BUTTOCKS
WHAT IS IT FOR?
Also known as "Brazilian Butt Lift", it improves the volume, projection and contour of the buttocks with fat harvested from another area of the body. It can improve the quality and texture of the skin in some cases.
HOW IT WORKS
Fat grafting, also known as fat transfer, fat injections or "lipofilling", is a surgical procedure (unlike hyaluronic acid, which is a nonsurgical procedure) that uses a patient´s own fat to fill irregularities and grooves or even increase volumes. Aesthetic indications for "lipofilling" include correcting emptiness of the face due to age, particularly the disappearance of fat from the cheeks, deep furrows from the nose to the corners of the mouth, and in some cases lines between the lower eyelids and the cheeks. It is also one of the most common methods used in lip augmentation. Furthermore, the "lipofilling" can be used to smooth the irregularities resulting from a poorly executed liposuction.
The volume enhancement of the breast or buttock (gluteal region) using the patient's own fat is one of the most requested aesthetic procedures at the moment.
The fat required for a limited liposuction is obtained through one or more incisions of 3 to 5 mm. It is normally withdrawn from the abdomen or thigh.
It has the additional advantage of actually performing a liposuction of other body areas, taking advantage of the fat removed.
PROCEDURE DURATION
It depends of the treated area and whether it is associated with other procedures. It can vary from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
OPTIONAL ASSOCIATED PROCEDURES
Liposuction, tummy tuck, bodylift, breast reconstruction, breast augmentation, labia majora rejuvenation
TYPE OF ANESTHESIA
General anaesthesia, except for minor procedures that can be performed with local anaesthesia (with or without sedation)
SCARS
Small scars of 3-5mm in fat harvesting areas, usually hidden by underwear or within less visible areas
HOSPITAL STAY
Depends on the size of the procedure and other associated procedures, but it can be done on an outpatient basis or require 1 day of hospitalization
RECOVERY
The swelling usually decreases from the third day, and social activities can be resumed after a week, sometimes with the help of some make-up
In the specific case of the buttocks, pressure over the treated region (including sitting and sleeping) should be avoided for 3 weeks to maximize fat viability and avoid pressure-induced deformities
RISKS AND MOST FREQUENT PROBLEMS
Asymmetry, irregularities, overcorrection and infection
PROCEDURE LONGEVITY
Part of the grafted fat (about 30-50%) is reabsorbed over 6 to 12 months, by which time the result often becomes final and definitive. Therefore, a slight hypercorrection is made taking into account the subsequent loss. The great advantage of fat as compared to fillers with hyaluronic acid is the available volume and durability. Large variations in weight can, however, change the volume of the fat, as it does with the remaining body fat
WHAT IS IT FOR?
Improves the shape of the buttocks, correcting their sagging and improving their projection
HOW IT WORKS
The buttock lift, or posterior bodylift, is a surgical procedure commonly used in patients with significantly flaccid buttocks, or previously obese patients who have lost weight (bariatric surgery), resulting in buttocks with some degree of sagging, laxity and loss of projection. The surgery involves the excision of skin of the lumbar and sacral regions (above the buttocks) that is in excess, and also of part of the fat, taking advantage of the other part to fill and project to the buttock. The scar is thus disguised within the marks of the underwear. Liposuction can complement the procedure by improving the definition of this area and the flanks.
The advantage of performing this procedure and abdominoplasty as two isolated procedures, compared to the circular bodylift in which everything is done at the same time, is the ability to maximize skin tension without compromising healing, thus achieving even better aesthetic results
PROCEDURE DURATION
2h
ASSOCIATED PROCEDURES
Liposuction, circular bodylift, abdominoplasty
TYPE OF ANESTHESIA
General anaesthesia
SCARS
The scar has a horizontal orientation and is located in the upper portion of the buttocks, following its slight curvature, from one side of the body to the other
HOSPITAL STAY
1 to 2 days in hospital
RECOVERY
You should avoid pressure over the area operated during the first 2-3 weeks (including sitting and sleeping) and may resume work after 2-3 weeks as long as it does not require exertion. Physical exercise resumes at 6 weeks. During this time, you should use a compressive garment specifically recommended by our team. Lymphatic drainage performed by professionals with experience in this type of procedure is a complementary technique that can be performed after 15 days
RISKS AND MOST FREQUENT PROBLEMS
Some swelling and bruising may be expected in the first few days, and a reduction in the sensitivity of the "stretched" skin for a few weeks to months. The most frequent problems are seroma and small healing problems, which are generally of little relevance. Rarer are hematoma and infection, excessive scarring and the presence of devitalized adipose tissue (steatonecrosis). One of the most worrisome complications is pulmonary thromboembolism, so early ambulation is important
PROCEDURE LONGEVITY
The procedure is definitive as long as there are no significant changes in weight
WHAT IS IT FOR?
Improves the appearance of the gluteal region (buttocks) by increasing its volume
HOW IT WORKS
Buttock augmentation with implants, also called augmentation gluteoplasty, is a surgical procedure that consists in the placement of a silicone prosthesis in each buttock, with a type of silicone less "soft" (more cohesive) than the one used in the breast, allowing the increase of volume and projection. The preference of our team lies in the placement of the implants inside the gluteus muscle (gluteus maximus), and not outside the muscle and just below the skin, because the latter option leads to a higher rate of complications, namely deformity and capsular contracture. In patients who have fat deposits in other areas of the body, it is still possible to associate this technique fat grafting obtained by liposuction
PROCEDURE DURATION
2h
ASSOCIATED PROCEDURES
Fat grafting (lipofilling)
TYPE OF ANESTHESIA
General anaesthesia
SCARS
The scar, about 6-7cm, has a vertical orientation and is barely perceptible because it is placed in the groove between both buttocks
HOSPITAL STAY
1 day in hospital
RECOVERY
You should avoid pressure over the area operated for 2 weeks, which implies some degree of dedication, and tolerance to a laid down position. You can return to work after 2 weeks, and resume physical activity at 6 weeks
RISKS AND MOST FREQUENT PROBLEMS
The most discussed problems are small asymmetries, excessive scarring or a delay in healing, hematoma or seroma, infection and nerve compression (sciatic nerve), although the latter are infrequent. Like any implant in another part of the body, either one or both may also have to be removed and/or replaced for the treatment of problems such as bleeding, infection, rupture of the implant or formation of "contractile" scar tissue around the implant - capsular contracture, which causes visible changes in the shape of the buttock
PROCEDURE LONGEVITY
The procedure is definitive
