Neck Liposuction

PurposeImproves the contour of the neck by reducing the amount of fat
Duration45 minutes
AnaesthesiaGeneral anaesthesia

What is it?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure in which fat is removed through cannulas inserted through small openings in the skin. It can reduce the volume of neck fat when the amount is moderate, because excessive removal may lead to excess skin and subsequent sagging. In these cases, combining a neck lift with liposuction provides a more harmonious and balanced result.

Neck Lift

PurposeImproves the contour of the neck and reduces laxity
Duration2 hours
AnaesthesiaGeneral anaesthesia

What is it?

A neck lift without a combined facelift may be indicated when ageing of the neck is more marked than ageing of the face, or in patients who previously underwent a midface facelift. The combination of the two procedures most frequently provides good results and may be complemented with a brow lift, blepharoplasty and fat grafting to obtain more harmonious and complete results for the face and neck.

The procedures must be assessed case by case, and no standard formula is applied to every patient.

Facelift surgery is a procedure in which the tissues of the face are resuspended along vectors that restore the characteristics of a younger face, counteracting the effects of gravity and the excess skin that develops with age.

According to current concepts, a facelift involves working on and reorganising the tissues below the skin — in the neck, the platysma muscle — rather than simply stretching the skin, which may produce unfavourable results such as a “wind tunnel” appearance and “pixie ears”.

A complete facelift therefore involves some degree of skin undermining to achieve good results, rather than relying only on minimal procedures.

More natural-looking results are obtained when the procedure is performed in relatively young people, from around 40 years of age, because the transition between before and after is less dramatic while the features of a younger face can be maintained for many years.

Aqualyx®

PurposeReduces localised fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise, without surgery
Duration30 minutes
AnaesthesiaThe injected solution already contains anaesthetic

What is it?

Aqualyx, also known as intralipotherapy, is a non-surgical medical treatment in which an aqueous solution based on acid or sodium deoxycholate is injected directly into the subcutaneous fatty tissue. The solution destroys the membranes of fat cells, liquefying them so that they can be eliminated naturally through the lymphatic system.

Aqualyx is not a substitute for liposuction when large volumes of fat need to be removed. It is intended for small to moderate, localised and resistant fat deposits as part of facial or body contouring, not as a weight-loss method. Patients should have a balanced weight and realistic expectations about the result.

Adequate hydration before and after treatment is important because water facilitates the elimination of destroyed fat cells and contributes to the effectiveness of the procedure.

The most common treatment areas are the double chin and chin, abdomen and flanks, inner thighs and knees, back, and upper arms.

Unlike fat removed by liposuction, fat destroyed with Aqualyx cannot be reused or transferred to another area because it is eliminated by the body.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about neck treatments.

What is neck liposuction intended to improve?

It is intended to improve the contour of the neck by reducing localised fat.

How is neck liposuction performed?

Fat is removed through cannulas inserted through small openings in the skin.

How long does neck liposuction take and which anaesthesia is used?

The procedure takes about 45 minutes and is performed under general anaesthesia.

Does neck liposuction require a hospital stay or leave scars?

It can be performed as an outpatient procedure and leaves small scars concealed in natural folds or wrinkles.

What is the recovery time and how long do the results last?

Patients can usually return to work after 2–3 days and resume physical activity after 4 weeks. The effect usually lasts for many years.

What is a neck lift intended to improve?

It improves the contour of the neck and reduces laxity.

When may a neck lift be performed without a facelift?

It may be indicated when neck ageing is more marked than facial ageing or after a previous facelift limited to the midface.

How does a neck lift work?

It resuspends and reorganises deeper tissues, including the platysma muscle, rather than merely stretching the skin.

How long does a neck lift take and what hospital stay is usual?

The operation takes about 2 hours, is performed under general anaesthesia and usually requires one day in hospital.

Where are the scars and what is the recovery period?

Scars are concealed around the ears, sideburns and scalp. Work can usually be resumed after 8–10 days, and the final result is assessed after 3–4 months.

What is Aqualyx®?

It is a non-surgical medical treatment in which an acid- or sodium-deoxycholate-based solution is injected into fatty tissue to destroy fat cells.

Does Aqualyx® replace liposuction or cause weight loss?

No. It is intended for small to moderate localised, resistant fat deposits, not for large volumes or as a weight-loss method.

Which areas can be treated with Aqualyx®?

Common areas include the double chin and chin, abdomen and flanks, inner thighs and knees, back, and upper arms.

How is Aqualyx® performed and what is the recovery like?

A session takes about 30 minutes, the solution contains anaesthetic and treatment is performed in the office. Daily activities can be resumed almost immediately, while intense exercise, heat and direct sun should be avoided for 48 hours.

How many Aqualyx® sessions are needed and how long do results last?

Usually, 2–5 sessions are required at intervals of 3–4 weeks. Destroyed fat cells do not regenerate, and results tend to be long-lasting when weight remains stable.

This information is general and does not replace an individual medical assessment.
