Rhinoplasty

Nose surgery to improve its appearance and correct deformities.

PurposeImproves the appearance of the nose and corrects deformities.
Duration1.5 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the case.
AnaesthesiaGeneral anaesthesia.

What is it?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that can be performed through incisions hidden inside the nostrils only, in closed rhinoplasty, or with an additional small scar on the columella between the nostrils, in open rhinoplasty.

Closed rhinoplasty provides an appropriate solution for most cases. In more complex nasal deformities, when extensive cartilage remodelling is required, or in some revision procedures, open rhinoplasty may be the most effective and safe option.

The final shape of the nose depends on three types of tissue with very different characteristics: soft tissues, including skin, fat and mucosa, cartilage and bone. Each tissue must be treated carefully and individually to obtain the best result. Aesthetic standards also differ between women and men and among different ethnic characteristics: every case is individual.

Common goals include reducing or increasing the size of the nose, removing a nasal hump, changing the shape of the tip, reducing the width of the nostrils or changing the angle between the nose and the upper lip. When combined with procedures that improve the internal or external nasal valves, or the nasal septum, rhinoplasty can also have a functional role in reducing some breathing difficulties.

Rhinomodelling (injectables and fillers)

A non-surgical treatment for minor changes to the shape of the nose.

PurposeImproves the appearance of the nose and corrects minor deformities.
Duration15–30 minutes.
AnaesthesiaTopical anaesthesia.

What is it?

Rhinomodelling is a non-surgical procedure in which the volume of the nose is enhanced with a filler. Hyaluronic acid is preferred because of its safety profile. It is performed at the office and aims to slightly increase some dimensions of the nose or disguise minor deformities.

The results are temporary and do not produce changes in shape as marked as those achieved with rhinoplasty, but the procedure is more comfortable and has an almost immediate recovery.

Wrinkles or lines on the side of the nose, sometimes called “bunny lines”, can also be treated with B. Toxin to inhibit muscle contraction.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about rhinoplasty and rhinomodelling.

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is surgery to improve the appearance of the nose and correct deformities. It may also have a functional role when the nasal valves or septum are treated.

What is the difference between closed and open rhinoplasty?

Closed rhinoplasty uses incisions hidden inside the nostrils. Open rhinoplasty also uses a small incision on the columella between the nostrils.

When may open rhinoplasty be preferred?

It may be the most effective and safe option for more complex nasal deformities, when extensive cartilage remodelling is required, or in some revision procedures.

Which structures are treated during rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty may involve the soft tissues, including skin, fat and mucosa, as well as cartilage and bone. Each tissue is treated individually.

What changes can rhinoplasty make?

It can change the size of the nose, remove a nasal hump, alter the tip, reduce nostril width and change the angle between the nose and upper lip.

Can rhinoplasty improve breathing?

It can have a functional role when combined with procedures that improve the internal or external nasal valves or the nasal septum.

How long does rhinoplasty take?

The procedure usually takes between 1.5 and 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the case.

What is the recovery after rhinoplasty?

Return to work may be possible from the second week. The result is not considered definitive before 6 to 9 months, with the greatest changes occurring during the first 3 months.

What risks and temporary effects can occur after rhinoplasty?

Swelling, bruising around the eyes or nose, minor bleeding and temporary nasal congestion may occur. Infection, asymmetry, an unsatisfactory nasal shape and incomplete improvement are also possible.

What is rhinomodelling?

Rhinomodelling is a non-surgical office procedure that uses a filler, preferably hyaluronic acid, to slightly increase some dimensions of the nose or disguise minor deformities.

Does rhinomodelling replace rhinoplasty?

It does not produce changes in shape as marked as rhinoplasty. Its results are temporary, but it is more comfortable and recovery is almost immediate.

How long does rhinomodelling take?

The procedure usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes.

Does rhinomodelling leave scars?

It does not leave scars and is performed with topical anaesthesia.

When can I return to work and sport after rhinomodelling?

You can return to work on the same day and resume sports after 3 days.

How long do rhinomodelling results last and what are the risks?

Results last approximately 9 to 18 months. Swelling, bruising or redness may occur during the first few days; asymmetry, irregularities, undercorrection or overcorrection and infection are rare.

This information is general and does not replace an individual medical assessment.
